i have a 1986 blazer and i was driving today and stopped to load some stuff up and when i went to start the truck back up it wouldnt start. i tried ether to see if it was a fuel or fire problem and it tried to hit a couple of times but then wouldnt hit at all, pulled off the fuel line and checked for flow by cranking the key over and fuel was good. It seems i have no fire, i tried to do the old screwdriver in the plugwire trick and couldnt get fire, then i tried taking the plug out and grounding it while cranking, nothing. my first impression was the coil was bad as this just happened in my other truck so i changed it with no luck. i am going tomorrow to pick up a new distributpr cap and rotor button. i also checked the ign fuse and it was good, and i have a little over 11 volts to the coil. any ideas on what else this could be? I am stumped:confused: and not very experienced. Any help is appreciated

i had the same problem, mine was the module in the distributer.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Is the module the peice under the cap that the wire come out of and hook to the coil or is it a little deeper than that?and how can i check that gear on the distributor?

The module is under the coil in the distributor. The easy way to make sure the gear is still good on the dist shaft is to pop off the cap and turn the engine over and see if the rotor turns. If it doesn't the the gear is bad or the drift pin has come out. The gear is driven off the end of the cam shaft. It turns the distributor which also in turn turns the oil pump on the end of the dist. shaft. So basically the shaft does double duty providing both spark and oil, thus that little gear is pretty important.
Remember to check the "hot" wire that plugs in on the side to make sure it is getting power (key on).

FIXED!!!! now i have another problem

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I put on a new coil to start with and that didn't fix it so last night i put a new ignition module, distributor cap, and rotor button on last night and it started right up:bow:. so I'm not sure which one of those it was but it fixed it. My new problem is that i found out the rear output of my t-case is leaking. Is that a hard fix or relatively simple?

Pretty simple fix. I assume that it is an aluminum 208 case based on the year model. That being said it is a slip yoke. Simply undo the drive shaft at the rear end and slide it out of the transfer case. Pop out the seal with a screwdriver or small pry bar. Check the surface area where the new seal will go for any burs. If there are any clean them up. If you have a seal driver use it. If you don't then a large socket can be used just so long as the outside diameter is the same as the seal. Tap it in nice and strait and don't force it or go crooked with it, and don't go to far or you will just crush it. Oh and don't put any sealant on it, the green stuff on it is the sealant. Next put some white grease on the rubber part of the seal and slide your drive shaft back in, be sure not to force it and mess up the new seal. Reattach the drive shaft to the rear end and top off the fluid in the transfer case.
While your at it check the u-joints for play while the shaft is out, as well as the pinion seal and pinion play. As well as the rear diff fluid.

thanks man, i will have to get one of those and fix it soon, its starting to leak pretty good. one problem after another, i guess thats what i get for not being able to break away from the old school jacked up chevys lol:k5::truck:

This site is the best there is for old school GM trucks. Stick around and you will learn all you need. Great people on here. I have seen many people come here over the 10 years I have been here with little to no knowledge and wind up building nice trucks.
