I recently decided "racecars dont need keys, why do I"? so i bought a moroso switch panel with a momentary start switch, a MSD ignition box and a battery kill switch. i have everything hooked up the way it shoud be, but still no start. wont even crank. i re-wired the whole thing, exactly the way it should be, but its like the solenoid isnt getting the message to jump over. does anyone know how to rig this up to make it work? i need my truck back! >:(

Also i saw a post on here with a removed AC, a panel of sheet metal and a battery junction block. how hard is it to take the AC out? I figure since i dont have doors i wont be needing it....

Might help to let us know how you currently have it wired up.

Basically though, you need a wire from the starter solenoid (S terminal) to one side of the momentary switch and the other side of the momentary switch needs to be 12 volts. This will make that starter crank but the engine may not start depending on whether or not you have the ignition stuff wired correctly.

I have it set up the way you are saying, but still nothing. i will run to the parts house and pick up a new battery since mine wont charge. As far as the ignition it is wired up correctly as well. when i hit the ignition switch on the panel the lights light up and proves it is ready to go. im at a loss and this truck is winning the battle. I guess she is pissed at me for letting her sit for 5 years with no motor. :doah:

If you have 12 volts to one side of the momentary switch and when you depress the switch you get 12 volts to the other side of the switch (and down to the starter solenoid) then the solenoid or starter is bad (assuming you have a good battery in the rig) and the battery positive cable hooked to the large stud of the starter.

Well with the battery cutoff switch the positive cable has to go straight to the switch. So right now I'm running a 10 gauge wire from the battery to the battery post. I think I need to go get a junction block and a few more cables to pull this off. Bear with me I'm just super frustrated.

Whoa Whoa Whoa........WHAT did you say??

I hope I read that wrong. You said you are running a 10 ga. from the battery to the cutoff switch.
Actually you said you are running a 10 ga wire from the battery to the battery post.

You do have a heavy battery cable somewhere don't you?

I mean, if you have moved the battery cable to the cutoff switch and have run a 10 ga wire from the battery to the other side of the switch, then not only is that your problem, but stop doing anything until you get a heavy battery cable from the battery to the switch.

Otherwise, you are quite likely to have a fire real quick.

I'm hoping I misunderstood, but I wanted to stop you just in case.

If you're using a battery cut-out switch between the battery and starter you MUST have a minimum of 4 AWG battery cable from the battery to the switch and then from the switch to the starter solenoid like Fordum stated and that switch better be rated for at least 350 amps.

well i got it cranking, but now i have a huge oil leak out of the back of the motor. im thinking its out of the manifold, but cant be sure until tomorrow when i open her back up. thanks guys for the help ill keep yall updated and post pics when shes done.

i did exactly what you guys said to do. ran a battery cable from the cut off switch to the starter and she cranked. my day ended with about a quart of oil pouring out on the ground though...:frown1:

Sorry about the oil. Clean the back up and see if you can spot where its coming from.
I have seen several episodes of that problem here. Ask for options when you figure it out.

You lucked out with the wire. If that 10 ga. had been able to conduct just a little more current, the solenoid would have fired, and that would have thrown the full 200 amp+ on that piece of wire.

Lots of Smoke!!
