My 700R4 did that and we had to pull it and get it rebuilt:( Hopefully for you it isnt that severe but just a thought. Not that familiar with the th350/th400's

Yeah your tranny is shot.
The reverse is a different part that is why it could still work when forward gears go.
Last time my tranny went out and I was 30 miles away from home I drove in reverse 30 miles to get home.:D

Now would sitting cause it to go? it worked fine a few weeks ago but the truck has been sitting there and now i went to move it and nothing

I got a 79 1/2 ton 4x4 from a guy that parked it cause the trans quit, it was a turbo 350, the truck sat for at least 3 years.Long story short, he gave it to me, I towed it home and started to work on it. A little new gas and it started right up, SWEET. I tryed to drive it no go, but it kind of had reverse. So I took the pan off and changed the fluid, the filter had a hole in it:eek1: So I filled it up and the dam thing worked. I drove it arond for 3 months and I couldn`t get it to slip, worked good. I sold the truck for 600.00. Not to say this will work for you but it`s worth a try. Good luck! Have Fun!!:D

If it sat for a long time after not having problems when parked, the first thing I would do is change fluids and filters.
Most cars I bought worked fine after fluids got changed, including the brake fluids that every one ignores.
