Hello,
I'm new to the chev world, been a toyota guy. Inherited a truck from my late uncle that i wanted to fix up as he loved it. this involved putting a new cab onto his frame.

Started out with a 77 3/4 tonne pickup, put cab from a 79 onto its frame.

77 was 4x4 standard, 79 was 2wd automatic so had some floor issues but sorted through all of those. (still have the backup lights to figure out though)

Other than that (i think) everything so far seems good, i got it running, brakes and turn signals work, heater works, just no headlights. No high or low beam, no running and no dash lights.

I'm stumped. I have no power at the switch and ive tried two of those to make sure, the floor dimmer switch also has no 12v either. I have to be missing something but looking through the manual i just cant figure it out.

anyone with any suggestions?

thanks
jeff

This is obvious and I know you most likely have....but check fuses and grounds. on these trucks that's the problem the majority of the time. other than that I would just run 12v to the headlight switch from a known hot source and see if you get lights.

Thanks,

Since my post ive been searching for some good wiring schematics but havent found any yet.

I then jumped some power to the light switch and I know have lights. Since kinda new to chevy took me awhile to figure out where power originated for the lights, which is at the switch.

So from a wiring harness i grabbed from the scrap yard i traced the power wire from the light switch back to the fuse panel and where it lies with exterior harness. Looks like the side of the exterior harness doesnt connect to the pin that the lights are on. Not sure if this is true will find out tomorrow though. From what I'm thinking is that since 77 was glass fuses and 79 was the mini fuses that this is where my problem lies, hopefully this is the only one. Might need to get a post 79 harness for the engine side of the truck and put it in if its anything more than this.

I'll see if my .pdf manual has any schematics, but for now, check out this site for some more simple wiring diagrams: http://brochures.slosh.com/wiring/ I did a full rewire on my '73 so hopefully between me and the more experienced/wiser guys on this site, we'll get this figured out haha.
