no more points!!!!!

If ya have the money, get a dwell meter. It gets the points right on. And remember, changing the point gap changes the timing a bit. Ya need to set it each time ya adjust the points!

just go hei, get one from a junkyard and live happily ever after:D

I've heard the thickness of a match book is about correct but I'd just get an hei or an elctronic conversion for your points distributor

You learn quick young grasshopper. :D

Switching to an HEI is easy. Pull your points distributor and coil, drop in an HEI distributor and then check voltage to the wire that was originally going to your positive side of the coil and if it's 12 volts put a connector on it and plug it into the HEI cap where is says BAT and you're all done. :thumb:

PS: This will however cause you to need to buy new plug wires and a different style coil and cap but probably time for that tune-up anyways.

Your truck originally had an HEI distributor in it. I'll bet you keep eating points because you cannot have more than 9 volts on a points distributor or else points fail very quickly unless of course someone was smart enough to install a ballast resistor or a resistor coil.

Don't fergit to increase the size of the wire going to the dist. I had weird problems on my '73 when I put in a HEI, until I did.
Run a 12 or 10 gauge from a "switched" terminal on the fuse box to the dist. It will be "hot" 12 VDC when the ing switch is turned on.

Note:

Unless it had HEI originally!

well it has had that distributor in it for like a yaer and thats the first points i burned, i left the radio on, oopps!!!LOL

whats the best thing 2 do??? i dont want to throw the timeing off............and well i do have a HEI on my project blazer, so yeah what should i do?????

Just go get you another HEI there cheap try one of those junk yards on montana out by the titty bars

just pay attention to where the #1 plug wire is on your current Dist' and put the new one in the same way it's not as hard as it sounds if you can set pounts then you can swap distributors

Oh, well uhhh.... is this your only vehicle ???? other than your project mentioned above

if you could get the truck up here to Alamogordo I sure wouldn't mind helping you convert it to HEI
