I have a 305 with stock exhaust manifold. Is it bad if I just run a cat and no muffler?

Bad for my motor? The muffler was leaking and was too quiet. I already cut the muffler off, and I actually like the sound. Its not even that loud.
the cat will quiet the exhaust down bit.
My muffler fell off a few weeks ago and I run true duals so only 1/2 was straight piped and at full throttle I felt like I was driving a drag racer!
But other than idle and full throttle is sounded like ass. It would sound better if the other side was straight piped too, but there was no need to cut up the exhaust that much.

It may sound bad but your mpg will go down, you won't have as much power, you'll get a fix-it ticket and you won't pass SMOG.sunnyc123abc said:

Should be fine if you like the sound. Won't hurt the motor. Can't give any advice on your smog laws. Best listen to the Cali guys on that.

Mine is just fine
I bought the truck this way but it has no mufflers with true dual exhaust and a 305. It sounds great to me. No annoying ricer sound.
The good thing for me is my truck is now considered Historic in Md (20 years old baby) No more emissions testing for me or inspection!!!

Oh yea, I guess I forgot about that tuned exhaust on chev trucks.
