No radio dispaly with car running

I have a 90 5.7 K5 with stock cassette player (its the model below the one with the equalizer). I have radio display with igntion on but once I start the car the radio will work I just get no display. I have a feeling its something stupid but figured you guys could help enlighten me thanks.

They are tied into the headlights for dimming, correct?

Might be a problem with the headlight switch. If you can reach it, I'd unplug the headlight switch and try again, see what happens.

I *assume* (having never used a newer radio like that) that the actual dimmer knob on the headlight switch has no bearing on radio brightness, it's normally just either full brightness/headlights off, or dimmed/headlights on?

I dont think the headlights being on effects that radio brightness. Yes you can dim the radio with the headlight switch. The problem has corrected itself for now and is working must of just been a glitch. It would still be nice to know what was doing this to prevent future issues.

lol sorry, it is an interesting issue. if it corrected itself on its own i would imagine its a short of some kind.
