I just put in new speakers and a deck in my Burb, and everything was running fine. Just now I was driving it, and I turned up the volume a little from what it was (nowhere near the max level), and all sound just cut out. Nothing at all. Changed CD's, turned it off then on again, still nothing. Checked the fuse on the cd deck and it was still good. Can't screw around with it too much more as it is dark outside but does anybody have any suggestions?:confused:

One of the wires to the speakers might be shorted.....

Most decks will shut down with a direct-short like that to protect the head unit.

When you have light...look for speaker wires run through metal without a grommet (common one) or any loose wires that might be able to touch surrounding metal near a speaker.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the head unit still acts like it is playing the CD, the time ticker is still going, just no sound at all. :dunno:

press teh little reset button under the faceplate or wherever yours is after you check for shorts

I hit the reset button, and one of the speakers made a little popping noise, but still no sound. So one shorted out wire could disable audio going out to the rest of the speakers?

Well apparently a short in one speaker connection will disable all sound. I clipped the wires on the one speaker that popped a little, and the audio started working again, sans the one speaker. Off comes the dash pad again. :haha::doah:

Thanks for all the help guys!

My general rule is that it's usually the simple things that getcha!

$20 says that the popping speaker has a crimped wire somewhere or one of the contacts is shorting to the metal in the dash area.....

Let us know what you find.

Yep, one of the little metal speaker terminals was just touching the dash. I flipped the speaker around and voila, now everything works fine. :D

use insulated terminals, or at least electrical tape everything!

I'll take my $20 via PayPal.....or maybe a case of your local favorite microbrew beer??? :wink1:
