Here's the story: '90 burb, 5.7L TBI. It had no power and really bad mileage (6 mpg hywy). It failed our local emissions test due to it running really rich. I bought new cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and air filter. When I removed the wires from the cap, two posts were more coroded than I have ever seen (I ran a repair shop for 16 years) and two plugs had cracked ceramics (I may have done that when I removed the plugs). Install all the new parts and the thing ran GREAT! Passed the I.M. test (HC reading now at 87 @ 2500 rpm - was 2700 before:eek1:). It ran fine to and from work today, but started it to run and errand and it was running really rough. It ended up dieing in a friend's driveway.

Towed it home and checked it out. It had not spark but was getting fuel. I found that the rotor was cracked, so I returned it and got a new one (exchanged the cap too). Put everything back together and started it up - NOT! Still no spark at the plugs. No spark from the coil either. I tested for battery power to the coil with the key on - it has battery power. I tried to go through the coil-testing steps, but could not get the probes from the multimeter into the connectors.

My question is, is there another way to test the coil?
what about the ignition module?

Most common failure point is the ignition module then next in line would be the pick-up coil (don't confuse this with the ignition coil). I would buy and install a new ignition module regardless since it is GM's downfall and if that doesn't cure the no spark issue then throw the old one in the glovebox as a spare back-up and then move onto the pick-up coil.

Are there ant trouble codes? If not
Try replacing the ignition module before doing anything else.

One A/C Delco coil and one A/C Delco ignition module later, the burb LIVES! Thanks for the input guys. I love this place.
