No Start After Welding (sort of)

I was always taught to disconnect the battery cables and put the grounding clamp as close as possible to where you are welding to allow a clear path... hasn't failed me yet

Both of my cables were disco'd and my ground clamp was approx 12" from welding area, junk still go boom. :doah: :dunno:

is the braided wire between the firewall and motor still hooked up and have good connection?

That's the one I was talking about in post #4 but I haven't been able to check it yet. That's the 1st order of business for Sat am.

i've had one come loose years ago and it reeked havick for awhile before an old guy i knew said to check that cable. might not be it but :dunno:

Well it's fixed, it ended up being the ground(s).

First, the small ground strap between the motor and body was connected but loose. Next, I discovered when the negative battery cable clamp bolt was tight the clamp itself wasn't tight on the post resulting in a second loose connection. I fixed both connections and everything is fine now.

Sloppy and embarrassing on my part... :doah:

Dont feel bad we all do it once in awhile. I chased an issue in my monza for 2.5 years, had everybody I know under the hood and spent a lot replacing crap. All the while I kept looking at one of those little blue clamp on wire tap things clamped to the batt wire about 2" from where it went into the HEI. I knew it wasnt right but never checked it though. I figured I had bigger problems at the time The day that I was gonna pull the motor out I decide to chase it out. Turns out the PO hooked the electric fuel pump (which I also replaced) to that wire. I took the wire tap off , hooked it up to a switch and $%^& that thing had power. I still feel like an idiot for that one:D
