No such thing as a simple project...

I'm interested to see where you run your cables. That is the same location that I am placing my batteries.

On a side note, when my truck is finished I will be doing a bit of wheeling out on the island to test er out. It would be great if you had the time to come out and wheel for a day. I haven't seen you since BB03. Anyways I'll shoot you a message when it gets closer to that time.

Each battery runs a ground cable down to the frame (yes i know it's not the ideal ground...;) ) with 1 gauge fine strand welding cable. One positive cable from battery to battery. One positive cable running up the passenger frame rail to the starter. One ground cable from the engine to the frame. All the ables are the same 1 gauge fine strand stuff.

Having driven it for the first time today I noticed right away that it started much easier than before. Much better cranking speed and I'd guess more voltage going to the glow plugs. I was quite impressed...

The other thing i noticed was how quiet the truck was. With the batteries up front I'd hear the fenders squeaking and creaking over every bump (busted spot welds on one fender) but now it's dead quiet. With no weight there to amplify the problem it just doesn't make any of those annoying noises.

Overall I'm very happy with this mod. About the only negative I've found is that hooking up the cables is a little finicky. Having to use one of the side terminals on one battery meant having to very carefully tighten that one up. I think next time I'll wrap my wrench in electrical tape...

Here's a shot with a 48" level across the wheelwells. This fit between them with plenty of room to spare before...

I thought you were showing off your skills and illustrating how level everything is. :haha:

Looks good and I like the battery locations. You always do nice clean looking work.:waytogo:

Either that or your good at photo editing. :wink1:

LOL, I'm much better with steel than a digital camera...:haha:

Yeah, the level is a good visual being 48" long. There is normally 50" between the wheelwells. Without the level in that pic it just looks like i painted the bed and nothing more.

can we have more pics of the dash? i was thinking of doing mine just like that.

:D :wink1:

mine's in similar or worse condition. i only have heat - no way to turn it off either. ok. hijack off.

Not a stock back seat...plans are for a mini van seat for now and eventually a 36" wide suspension seat for the rear.

:( That makes me sad. I'm worried my dog will slip and fall in one of the wheels wells and cut his leg, so this mod would fix that. Hum... I do have two donor blazers in my yard, I bet I could steal the front bucket seats out of one of them, and save some money that way.
After all I drive a blazer because I wanted the room of a fullsize, not because it could climb over everything.

Very cool mod and safer too!
