i have a serious buzzing noise behind the speed o meter inside the dash, when its cold outside. It sound like a small motor running.

it starts buzzing at about 30 mph, and causes the speed o meter to go nuts. and when i come to a stop. the noise will stop.

any input on what this might be, and how to fix it?

probably your speedo cable is getting worn out. If that's not it, then it's your speedo itself. I would replace the cable.

I had that happen in a truck once, one day the speedo just stopped working and I was happy I didnt have to hear the buzzing anymore. Im not exactly sure what caused it, but it was only when it was about -20 outside.

Mine also did this. When I pulled the cluster out to change out the bulbs, I pushed the speedo cable in a little more tight. Haven't heard it since.

It was loud though and very annoying!!

I will replace my speedo cable here in the near future though. I think 300k on original cable is doing pretty good.

I also had this problem. I replaced the cable which helped but didn't solve it completely. I ended up pulling the speedo out of the dash and oiling the brass shaft where the cable gets attached. Now the speedo is quiet and has much smoother operation even when cold. That was several years ago and it's still working great.

and if these ^^^ suggestions don't work, you can always try going to a speedometer.:D:thumb:
x2 on the cable and bushing
