My 6.2 developed a noise when the engine stops turning. Sorta' a ka-ching, everybody notices it. Now I've noticed that my '87 Burb sounds a bit noisy in the timing chain(?) area. Hasn't gotten worse in 1000 miles. could anything be loose? I don't believe the motor has ever been touched, (1?)80k. Any thoughts? Sometime in my life I hope to be able to post an audio video link. I have a great clip.
Anybody want to help me use a link/player???

if you can email me the clip, i could probably host that video for you... colbys (at) pdx (dot) edu.

That's the problemo... I worked 'till 9-10PM last few nights. We own apts and 6 move ins for the beginning of month. Lotsa' little things...

I have a neighbor to help me, just no time...

The videos are on my hard drive, I watched them using MSN Picture Wizard, but not sure how to do anything else with them. Not even how to put 'em on a CD.

I'll PM you...

Found The Problem...

The crank has two "items" attached to it. The rubber insulated harmonic balancer and the belt (drive) pulley. Mine ('87) has a rubber (ring) insulated 2 piece assembly. There looks like a number of "fingers" to prevent the outer ring from spinning when and if the rubber fails. Mine did, and that's the noise.
The fingers are rapping against each other. Hence the noise. Pix below...

that is a really wierd looking pulley. never seen one which looks like that on any of the 3 6.2L i've dealt with - not that i've dealt with a plethora of 6.2s,

When u mentioned that 86 was "cut off" year, I was concerned that my 86 Banks would be the "normal" style. But it was the same, as in pix. But I need a better one. Hate to spend $135 at dealer, but I'm going to an alternative energy fair 125 miles away on Wednesday. Went to one to-day, but it ended sooner than ad in paper said. So 5 hours-200 miles of beautiful countryside, $35 fuel, and a PO'D wife. Oh well, I tried to make up by changing her alternator on her beutiful (300k) '91 Accord. So she gave me sh** for installing a (tested) used one. And hard to install. Can't win...
