i get noise when a go into turns on the k5. it has 4x4 dana 44. what could be causing this? on one side i replaced the spindle, hub and wheel bearings. the bearing was spinning on the spindle. the race moved in the hub. Is that common? I thought that would fix it but it still makes noise. maybe the other side is bad also. I did check it and the bearing race did not spin like the other side. this is in 2x4 mode... not sure in 4x4 mode

I hate to have to ask this, but what does the noise sound like? And are there any other signs?

Problem is, some noises come from the rear end, and some are even normal if you have a locker.

The easiest way to tell, is to jack up the front end, and spin the tire. Then, try to wiggle it top to bottom, and side to side.

The bearing spinning on the spindle and the race in the hub can be a sign of lots of miles and many bearing changes, but is usually due to a bearing seizing due to lack of lube or not being repacked after water intrusion.

the noise is from the left front wheel. At slow speeds if I jerk the wheel it makes a chirping sound. If I go into a turn it may make a chirping sound. I just recently replaced the spindle, hub and bearings on this wheel. The bearings were spinning on the spindle. The race was spinning in the hub. But it has all new parts now. Maybe I did something wrong with the install. Maybe it is from the other wheel. Could it be steering related? A knucle?.

Does the noise get louder when you turn in one direction and get quieter or go away by turning in the opposite direction? If it gets louder by turning left(or right) you'd be putting pressure on the opposite wheel bearing causing it to get louder. Have you looked at your u-joint at the axle? If they're old and worn they may the problem.

-- Yes

The U joints were recently replaced. In 2x4 mode however the front driveshaft is not spinning right? TH350-NP205 setup

Right, with lockouts they shouldn't. The reason I asked is because I had an old set of lockouts on a blazer that didn't always disengage, that would allow the axles to still turn.

You may not have seated the bearings all the way. When you put in new bearings and races, you tighten them up way more than they can run and then back off and re-tighten them to the correct amount.

Especially when you replace the races, they might not seat quite all the way, so you want to make sure they do.
Otherwise they will get some slack.

If you have front disks, then a slight amount of slack will let the rotor touch the pad when you make a turn. Which would make the noise you hear.

You need to jack up that side and see if it will wiggle.
