Ok trans was rebuil about a 2 years ago 1980 350 /th350 but the other day I noticed a clanking noise when I backed up my drive. the noise goes up and down with the engine rpms but only in reverse and worse under load. Could It be the flex plate or is there something in the trans that would make that sound. I only say flex plate caust it sounds like metal hitting metal im nervous about drive it with that sound

First thing, does it do it with the truck sitting still? If so, then you can forget about most of the drivetrain, since none of its moving.

If so, sounds like a loose bolt on the flexplate.

Also, the strain on the engine and transmission mounts is reversed in reverse, so the engine might be moving and letting something on the engine hit something. Like the fan.

I was thinking maybe the flexplate bolts but wouldnt the make noise foward or reverse?

The engine flexplate and pump are turning in the same direction all the time. But, the casing of the trasmission and all the related parts is being torqued in opposite directions.
So the engine and transmission mounts might give enough to let something hit.
