Although my AC blows decent cold air, it is noisy. Is that the indication that it is going die soon? What is involved in replacing it, difficult? cost if shop did it?

Thanks

Yeah, it's probably gonna die soon. R4 comp? They don't hold up well. It's not hard to replace, but you need facilities to pull freon out, evacuate air out of system when new comp is in, and refill system. I've been spoiled in the past by having access to A/C machines through work. Not sure how much it costs these days.

I would replace the pump yourself. then take it to a shop and have them evac and fill it. Around 160 for the compressor then around another 50 to evac and fill. I would say.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but mine has been making horrible noises for about 5 summers now, but still blowing cold. I keep thinking it will blow up to prompt a replacement but it hasn't.

depending on how much it holds, atleast at where i work, it would probably be closer to 110~140 to evac and charge

When it stops, you're probably going to have a crapload of debris spread through the lines, which is why I try not to let those noises go until it blows up.:dunno:Just a consideration.:D
