Non blazer posts:
What is the cost roughly to convert a long bed to short bed? There is no way I can swing this in my garage.
I’ve seem the vids and they are pretty straight forward. But with the Blazer in the garage, chopping a long bed wont go to easy. Hahaha

Thanks

what year. Brothers truck kit is 63-72 at $399 for frame kit. A floor two bed sides, reuse the head and tailgate. Driveshaft shorting. Neighborhood of 2 grand

71... I’ve watched all the vids on how it’s done. But my problem is not having space to do it.

What would it cost for this to be done by someone else? The brothers kit is pretty straight forward and I don’t doubt I could do it. But if I couldn’t...
10 hours labor, 5 hours?

I think they say on the show with two guys in less than 5 hours. Depends on how easy it comes apart.

Ha,
Well I’m pricing around locally for 71-72 C10 longbed and trying to get an idea what it would cost to chop it.

I only want to spend for $3500-4000 on the long bed. That price and what the chop and drive line would cost will determine if I move forward.

I have no room to do it in my garage on account of my blazer being there. Coupled with mine and my wife’s dailys in the driveway. No place to put the bed or be able to move around.

I had two running Squarebodies in the garage and it was a nightmare. The thought of moving the Blazer in and out is just not happening...

So maybe I should wait for you to get a truck bought and see if I should offer to come haul the bed off ?
:pimp: :haha:
I could maybe get some inner fenders at the same time!

You would think I could help since I've done it, but I can't do much. The story is on here somewhere, but I have told parts of it other times.
Basically, I custom ordered my '89 F250 new. It went straight to the shop when it came in.
The LWB body was removed and a less than 3 month old SWB body was obtained from the junkyard.
The frame was cut and rewelded with gussets.
The rear gas tank stayed the same, the side tank had to be swapped for a SWB tank.
The driveshaft had to be cut and shortened, because a 1/2 ton used different U-joints than the 3/4 ton. Ford does not make a SWB 3/4 ton.
The exhaust had a factory clamp in spacer that was removed and the two ends fit back together.
The two E-brake cables were removed at the split and a set of SWB cables installed.
The rear brake line had a section with flared fittings on each end that came out and the two ends screwed together.
The fuel lines on that truck were thick black plastic. Rather than installing a SWB line to the rear, the excess was coiled up in a big coil and tied up out of the way.

Other than cutting and welding the frame and driveshaft, everything was pretty much unbolt and bolt together. All the mounting bolt holes on the frame matched. The factory had done the minimum amount of changes between the two versions.
As for the cost, I don't remember for sure. It was over 30 years ago, there was a lot of other stuff done that all got lumped together, and the prices would be a lot different.
Plus, it was a Ford, I have no idea what the philosophy differences are between Ford and GM when it comes to LWB vs SWB frames.
