So my frame at the steering box has gone from bad to worse. Steering box frame brace will be ordered soon but I need to drive this thing. I have none of my fab tools here.

So my plan head to my buddies house that has my welder other stuff. Weld up the cracks pound some fender washers to conform to the contour of the frame and then grind em off when I get the brace kit.

Should work right?

Just welding the cracks should get you through for a little while...

fix the frame back to spec . then maybe use the big surface washers on the outside and leave them there .

when the bolt in kit shows up bolt it in and be done.

I should take pics at some point of a 2wd truck I got with a frame so bad you can get about 1 full turn and the wheels start to catch up . :eek1:

I think if I were you and I knew I was getting the brace (I assume you mean the weld one brace) I would fix the frame and weld up the cracks and leave it at that. I see no reason why, with good welding of course, it wouldn't hold up for a while. Maybe weld in the big washers on the inside of the frame where you wouldn't need to remove them:dunno:

I will be ordering the brace next week so I think just welding up the cracks should do me fine for a couple weeks. Sucks not having all my tools

If the cracks don't go all the way to an edge, drill a small hold at the end of them before welding for stress relief.
1/8" or so will do.

Also, after welding, if you have a torch, heat the weld to dull red and hold it there for a few minutes to widen the hardness transition zone, then let it cool slowly.

Blaze are you near boise/ mountain home?

if so you your welcome to my garage! welder, grinder, hand tools and compressor:waytogo:
