Right now I have the interior of my truck removed and figured right now would be a good time to wire some stuff up.

I pulled an amp out of some car/truck that I bought and figure that since it's just sitting around with enough wire to wire it up I might as well use it.

I'm not trying to make a beat box or anything, I'm not even installing subs. I'm wondering, do I need to wire the speakers up to the amp or when I run the RCA to the back of the head unit will that send the power from the amp to the speakers? I'm just running some pioneers in the stock dash location, some 6x9's behind the front seat, and stock size replacement pioneers in the way back.

Like the title says, noob question... This will be the first time I do anything other than a different head unit and replacement speakers in anything.

The main thing you didn't mention is power wiring. You need to run fused power direct from teh battery to the amp, an then a short ground to the body.

That, and there is a small wire you run with the RCA's that sends a signal to the amp to turn on when the stereo is powered on.

Post up model number / specs on the amp, and we'll help you figure out the right stuff.

I knew that. I already have the RCA cable ran along with a blue wire for the system control. I just ran them together since they're going to the same places. I already have a ground, and I already ran my power wire, just need to throw a fuse in there.

The amp I have is just a 200W pioneer GM-X362 http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Amplifiers/GM-X362

To run amp to the speakers you need wires to the amp from the deck to the "in" on the amp. Then run wires from the"out" to the speakers. The amp takes and sends more from the deck to the speakers, not through the deck. Should be an in and an out rail on the amp. Hope that helps. I beleive also on that small blue wire you can install a switch so that you can run the amp only when you want it, other than it always being on with the car on. I really enjoy doing speaker systems. Ive done quite a few that turned out pretty badazz, ill help if i can:waytogo:

Also idk what speakers exactly you are getting but hopefully three ways because if not when a bass note hits the speaker the rest will cut out. My car does this and its so annoying, sounds like crap.

So would it hurt if I ran the wires from the amp to the speakers along with the wires from the head unit to the speakers running the built in head unit amp along with the other?

You'll burn out the head unit doing that..

If you have RCA's going from the stereo deck, going back to the amp, you don't need any additional speaker wiring coming from the deck to feed the rear speakers. Run the RCA's, then speaker wires from the amp to the speakers.

You can still run speaker wires from the deck to feed front speakers, or some others, but they won't be as powered/loud as the amp'd speakers.

If your deck has built in amp outputs then you shouldnt need to run both sets of wires to the speakers. I dont know how that would react to be honest. Sounds odd to me, but ive never run amps to seakers, just to subs, but it should be the same idea.

Well theres ur answer lol. You think it would take out the deck or just blow the fuse in it? Just curious

Just a thought, I don't really want the ones in front to be as loud as the ones in the back though, do I? I figure the ones in the back need to be louder so I can hear them since they are further away.

Thats the way i would do it, less wire mess too not running wire back to the front just for the front speakers.

you dont want the 3.5 dash speakers highly amped. they will be very hard in your face. I would run them off the deck front and then rca to the amp to handle the rear speakers
