NOOB ???? (distributor)

long story short i just replaced the distributor in my rig. Here is my question i have 4 wires coming off the back of the dist. that goes to a plug. that goes to ??? and controls ??? as of right now its unplugged and it seems to run just fine. its in an 85k5 with an 83 305 and a 700r4. I have been told a few different things. so i was hoping that someone could give me a little more insight to what it goes to. Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure that goes to an ECM which controls ignition timing. I didn't think the vehicle would even run without it hooked up but apparently it will.

yea I know even the TBI motors will run without them hooked up, I forgot to what but the timing will default off something else. My buddys tbi wasnt advancing when applying throttle and had no power, thought that was the problem so we even ran new wires from the module to the ecm....long embarassing story short we had the wires for 2 plugs crossed

computer controlled carb?
my buddies monte had it. book said to unhook it to time it (guess it's like unhooking the vacuum of earlier models)
on his 86 truck that had it he cut all the wires out and put in a regular HEi with a edelbrock carb.
