hi i got to fix the windows in my 78 k5. i threw away the destruction:D for the window crank removal tool. how do you use these damned things?

Thanks

The retaining pin on the crank lever looks exactly like an "omega" symbol. Get a flashlight and try to push inwards on the door panel next to the window crank until you can see the retaining pin, or at least look for the open ends of the pin (you may have to rotate the crank). When you see the open end prongs of the clip, slide the tool down so that it contacts both prongs at the same time and push down. Be sure to catch the pin as it falls. When reinstalling, you will notice that the geared stud (the thing that the crank attaches to) of the elevator mechanism is tapered. This is so that when you reinstall the window crank, you can seat the retaining pin in its proper position on the backside of the crank handle first, and then tap the crank handle onto the stud- it will snap into place. When you study the design you will understand. Good luck.
