I did a search and did not find the answer I was looking for:
why is a slip yoke on a transfer case( np208) a bad thing for offroading?

thanks
Matt

cause if you break the slip yoke or anything related to it you pour out all your fluid from the break.
whereas if it was a fixed yoke you could potentially save the fluid and run out in frontwheel drive.

Another issue is the lift will put the driveshaft at a considerable angle which put a side pressure on the slip joint which wears it out faster, the fixed yoke puts the slip in the driveshaft which is always inline with the movement.
Not to mention slip yokes make the tailhousing too long making the driveshaft too short and angles steeper on the driveshaft.
I can go on, but that is enough reason.

Slip yoke + short wheel base = suckage on a lifted truck

My burb's driveline angles are perfect.. but it's half as long as a friggin school bus.

agree with the above reasons . Ihad a normal 241 on my 89 when i bought it . it had a 6 inch lift .. the slip yoke was so out of alignment that is was leaking and edded the seal. The Geometry puts alot of strain on the slip yoke caused alot of vibration.
I used the 241 STE Kit and tom woods shaft . 241 c sye kit was about 340 plus install ( no garage to work on stuff damnit LOL) and the tom woods was about 360 1310 cv front 1350 rear 3 in .083 DOM tube.

Alot less vibration in it rides alot nicer .

So for a stock truck, no lift, no big rubber, and no big HP. A slip yoke is fine to start with? it is what I have. Although I could rebuild my NP203 if the 203 and the 208 both have the same spline count and output shaft.
