Hello guys, this is my first post. I had the pleasure of bringing my 69 home about 3 months ago. Since then been "lurking" for some time now on CK5. I sure do thank you guys and all that you provide with knowledge to these 1st gen's. I plan on doing some stuff to the truck, but in good time and reading a whole bunch more from this website first.

Welcome to the best site and Thanks for becoming a member too :waytogo::waytogo:

That is one sweet looking stock K5.. Keep it that way...

wow, your truck is in really nice condition. See blazers without terminal cancer really makes me jealous.

I messed up, I wanted to buy a hunting truck. I have a dana 60 and 14FF next to me in the garage. This truck is in very nice shape as it sits, only has a small amount of cancer in three small areas. I know now, that I'm going to have to buy another beater truck for hunting. Still would like to see these axles under that truck though.

Wow, hard to call that rust after seeing how rusty most of our K5's are or were before repaired - that is incredible! I'd definitely encourage you to do mild stuff to this one and enjoy it more as a driver and get the beater for beating on.

Welcome to the board also!

That thing is nice man, I would feel bad for messing with it too much. But i can see how hard it is not to throw those axles under there, but i am sure you could put them to good use under a beater wheeler also. I have some serious envy for the condition of your truck.

Thanks guys for all the nice comments. I have thought long and hard this week to come up with my decision. The 69 will be a one ton here soon. I'm going to call DIY4x and get my shackles ordered here soon. I have two questions first though.
1) Thinking about the Alcan springs. Seems to me through my reading that they give the best ride?
2) How do you guys feel about the LMC body mounting kit. The ones on the truck are shot now. I want to do this first so I can take the top off the truck for the first time in it's life. This one owner truck has never been topless. I think if I do the body mounts first, I might not have as many problems with the door's when I'm done.

Plans for now.
New body mounts.
DIY's shackle flip for a 6" lift.
Install the 60 and 14.
Toyo 35's
Go topless, drive it around and figure what is next for the build.

Any help or info that you can give would be much appreciated.

Hey, ten bucks (Scott) I live just North of Sac. in Oroville.

My suggestion is to figure out what you wanna do with it. If it were ME, I'd leave it completely stock, that things looks like it'll become more and more rare as time passes. Here's my Blazer after a small resto, lift, and tires...

Here's my Blazer now...

I really wish I woulda kept this stock and built a beater Blazer instead...Just think carefully about your plans. I like your idea to buy a hunting Blazer instead :D

Man, I hear you. I am the perfect candidate for having to many of these (beers) and thought that what ever I was doing at the time was the best decision of my life to that point. The truck does not deserve that. I sure do like pic #1, can't afford pic #2. I took the top off yesterday and drove and drove. What a day! I told the wife about the second truck thing, that went over like a Led Zeppelin. She took the time after our discussion to make me a honey-do list a mile long. Looks like I will have some time to think about the 69 while I'm digging fence post holes.:haha: In the time being the boy and I are going to
Napa
for a rebuild kit for the
carb
and maybe try to locate a hubcap:D. Thanks for insight.
Mike

I'm all for preserving pieces of history, but swapping out the drivetrain is easily reversible. I've got 1-tons with 35's and don't plan to trim or wreck any sheetmetal if I can help it.

I say use it as a well-built hunting truck and enjoy it however you see fit. Big axles won't hurt your hunting ability.;)

I will let you know, i ordered some the other day so check up on my build thread to see how they turn out.

Thanks Dave. I have been watching your thread, go man go. Looks like the tear down has went fairly fast. Just take your time putting all that shiny stuff back in. As for the body mounts, I have been leaning towards the 1" ord's like ChefBear.
Everything has slowed down on mine since the taxman broke in my house and stole by build fund, grocery fund, beer fund:doah: ( well not that, I hid that money better).:haha:I have just been trying to kick a$$ on a couple of homes that I'm building, not that far off. Once I get the check from the insureds mortgage company it will be time to spend, spend, spend to get those 1 tons under the rig.:D

2) How do you guys feel about the LMC body mounting kit.

Ordered some for a past project ( the four main mounts , this was for a truggy project ) looked good , fit good . And they are still in use on the same frame after a body/cage swap .

Seem to be a little firmer than factory , but thats not a bad thing .

They were always in an open rig , so I have no input on whether they are quieter in the cab with the top on . I know one of my K5's , you hear the damn factory mounts everytime you flex the rig a little

Nice ride! What type of hunting do you do, and are you adding any hunting specific features?

Body mounts will be the 1st thing I replace on my 72' also. I went with the polyurethane set from LMC.

The 1st thing I did when I got my 69 was urethane body mounts from energy suspensions and they are 15 yrs old and look & feel new still. By the way congrats for joining the first gen club. They are awesome trucks
