I bought an STC top New in the box in 2008 from a guy off craigslist. Since I just got my rig running a couple months ago, I just got to put the top on.

So, I dunno if I'm not doing something right, but this "fastrac" is anything but fast. It takes me about 3 times as long as my old kayline snap top.

I don't like the third bow, I wonder why they added it? Those separator rods are just another step to get the top down and up. The fastrac "k-locks" as they call them suck donkey poo. How the F- do you get them in their channel, you have to pull down further than it wants to let them slip back up in their channel. Its a frikken dexterity challenge. And gettin them out feels like I'm gonna tear locks from the vinyl or break te plastics on the "klocks" every time. ANd you can't slip them in all nice before you zip the top side of the window because you'd tear the zipper out if you do the zipper as the last part. I do this with everything "unlocked" as they call it and the top loose. It really needs to be done with the separator rods out and the bows even looser so you can get those damn k-locks in.
And the windshield header is stupid. Sewn in plastic you have to manually jamb in the channel by hand, from each side. Takes forever. The old kayline top had the same metal on the truck, but it had a matching piece of mating metal sewn into the top, one easy action from one side and you could slip and center the top in the windshield header.
I also don't like the back corners when you roll up or remove the windows, the back corners are catching wind and seem like their gonna come off if you go fast enough.
The only thing I can say I like about it is the quality of the top & parts is good, and it's super quiet going down the road, much quieter than the old kayline snap top.

mabey I'm doing something wrong. I pictured "factrac" and Klocks as something simple, like one smooth action running down the side or something. Not this fight I got going here.

Damn I wish I didn't throw out all that kayline hardware years ago (what'll I need this for,i need a new top anyway it'll come with all new hardware :doah:) (the top was in tatters after years and years of use and sitting outside 24x7x365, I think it was a late 80's top, but had I kept the hardware, I could have had a shop make a new top patterend from the old). It was a perfect simple design, worked perfect. 2 minutes down, 5 minutes up tops. THis one is more like 5 minutes down and 15 minutes up, at best.

Am I missing something here. Why the heck is this called "fastrac"??? And not one word about these stupid klocks anywhere leads me to believe I"m not doing something right with them.

I loved mine when I was driving around with the sides off but when I had to get in the tailgate or put the sides on I HATED it! Getting them into the channel and getting it zipped up was a pain. It seemed as if the older the top was it got harder and harder. When I first bought it I could slip them on pretty quick but after a few years it was damn near impossible.

I am for sure getting some press fit snaps and straps and installing them in the top of each side, 3 on each side, like that back has (and like the old top was) to roll up the sides. Taking them out completely and "stowing them in the supplied bag" seems silly, for my situation at least. ANd the supplied bag is fairly small, so your folding the wee out of them. Far more steps then it needs to be. WHy not just roll them up like the back window and like the snap top was.
I just might replace the side bottoms with snaps too. We'll see.

Well, I helped it immensely, but the snaps are still easier.

I moved the bed rail aluminum outboard some by slotting the mounting holes. The major problem I was having with the "fast trac" pieces of plastic in the top, that mate to the bed rail alum, was I couldn't get them in the rail to save my life. The real issue was they were inboard too much and between the bed rail and track there just wasn't enough room to snake them in there, with the bed rail alum. moved outboard, the alum. rail is now alot more over the edge and it's far easier to slide the top plastic stuff in.
It still takes longer than snaps, but at least it's not a 20 minute project now. Still don't like the zip out windows, I'm gonna put some snap straps along the sides, like that rear has, so you can roll the window up.
But, it's a good top. Seems are really nice, it seals really nice, it's quiet.
