Not an ordinary tech question

I may look at the fuse panel and see if I can find anything. I'm not dead set on getting them out of the car, it was a thought and was wondering what it would en tale to do it. I was in no way saying I wanted to be unsafe or risk passengers in the chance of a collision. But also just as another thought, as mentioned a few posts up, we all drive daily driver k5's, suburbans, pickups with no bags and in some cases only lap belts. And then as in our play toys (mine included) a full cage and 5points. So I guess you can look at it a couple different was.

Anyways..............it was just a question

back to the normal "how big of tire can I run with a 4in lift ?'s":haha::haha::haha:

I'm no fan of airbags either. I'd like to see some actual statistics on an airbag having a positive effect on people who were properly wearing a seatbelt during an accident.

I highly suspect it's a bill of goods sold to cover those who don't use seatbelts.

Probably is against the law to disconnect them and could be problematic if someone else drove your vehicle and got involved in an accident. I wouldn't be surprised to find out insurance policies have exclusions on disconnecting the bags.

they don't always deploy

being a bondo guy i've fixed plenty of cars the bags never blew out when you'd expect they would have and yeah they were bought brand new orignal owners no question about the car having a sh--ty rebuild beforehand like on `60 minutes' article about bondoshops not replacing them a few years ago,,,here's one for you=my youngest kid hit a deer `98 Cavalier i replaced the radiator, condensor, hood etc.etc. the sensor bent at an angle that didn't deploy the bags,,,she took the car to the dealer for an AC recharge and to find out why the `air bag' light stayed on,,525bucks later it had a new air bag MODULATOR installed in the dash, had to be done or it would have been on CarFax,we bought the car for her about two years ago and my `tude was=does it even have airbags?(the 60 minutes article stuck in my head)the front (bumper)cover had obviously been repainted,,,,,car had to have the modulator to go on from there and test the system and yes it HAS air bags, and of course me being DAD i'll always wonder if them bast---s will do the job when needed, sorry for the ramble but i feel it's a gamble they'll deploy unless you stack it up juuuuust right, obviously a `heavy hit' and they can save your life but when the deployment sensor is all twisted from where it was before the hitadeer deal i sure wonder about the engineering=i wouldn't worry about it i'd just DRIVE IT

Heres one for you..

several years ago (cant remember exact year) my aunt had a new lexus (I remember seeing all the windows said toyota on them:haha:) anyway my uncle wanted to get his snowmobiles out and take them to get serviced before winter so they would be ready. He had to move the lexus. so backing out of the driveway he cut the wheels so it would basicaly back up to the curb side out of the way. He cut it too sharp and the front pass side tire dropped off the curb, POOF! both airbags went off. I belive that cost a little over $3000 after getting new bags dash steering wheel and the interior cleaned. IIRC they had to replace everything that has to do with the air bags. OH and he had a nasty bruise on his arm.

Now Im not saying this is a reason to remove them, just a bad experiance. I have never owned a vehicle with air bags exept my 2000 grand am and my 97 GMC. I think it should be my choice to keep them or not. I have gotten by without them for 30 years and a few crashes.

A whole lot of misinformation is out there regarding airbags. Airbags may not deploy if the crash pulse occurs too late into the sequence or the change in speed is not significant enough to trigger them. Damage is not a representation of airbag needs.

People can slide right past the airbags when seat belts are not worn. Seat belts work in conjunction with airbags and not as a replacement.

Here's what you do. Disable the airbags, get high insurance on someone and take them for a ride.:D
