not balancing ?

Can I get away with not balancing tires?

It seems as though enough people are running unblanaced tires with no problems. I think I will run them like that for a while.. I can always get them balanced later if its unlivalble, I guess.

to balance or not to balance....

i used to work for goodyear before the career change to a mechanic and i would always get the idiot that wanted his 44" boggers to ride like butter,box and a half of sticky weights later he had his wish.all im gonna say is if you are like me and know how to balance a wheel and can get an idea of how the wheel is spinning or wobbling or hopping you can achive a dynamic balance perfection,the way i was taught was never static balance anything and that is what goodyear wants as well. static balancing only takes care of the up and down vibration,it wont do anything about the side to side motion which can wear out bearings and seals and wreak havoc on valuable components upfront like balljoints,rod ends,steering boxes,etc.now if you are just mud bogging and trail driving or any other offroad activity (speeds generally lower than 30mph) then no worries anything above that start to worry. i know i will get plenty of feed back that im full of s&*t but i was in the tire biz long enough to know what im talking about so say what you may:D
 
what if I go 55mph for about 150 miles.. once a month.. and the rest is ALL off-road. Will I be ok? or am I gonna finish off my old decrepid ball joints and bearings? I would love to hear from some more people that have run unbalanced tires. have you had any problems?

i was just wondering how the bb's or golf balls balance a tire? i am new so this may seem like a dumb question but i am about to mount my new 35 tsl sx's and was wondering what would be the best way to balance them? they will be seeing more on road miles then off road. any help or explaination would be appreciated.
 
i havent balanced anything in three years EXCEPT for my new boggers b/c i wanted them to last a while b/c i will spend a little time on the street this spring after my surgurey

ive run across a few people running silica sand with good results,as for golf balls....:doah: :haha: thats asking for problems. the fact is that every tire is different and the way it moves and flexes and expands and contracts is always going to vary,now the question he is asking is what is the best way, balanced or not...well everyone is gonna have their opinion or else we all wouldnt be here giving our two cents worth on the subject.now my opinion is that if it is not gonna see onroad driving and never see speeds above 30mph then dont worry bout it,if it is gonna see mixed or speeds over 30mph then to save the expense of worn out components(and belive me they will bite you when you least expect) then invest the dough to have them balanced,and also remember i was a ride and vibration specialist for goodyear tire rubber for 3 years so i know what im saying when i say THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT YOU USE TO BALANCE A TIRE,as long as it zero's out and dynamic balance is the only balance method to use, dont do static balance,you tell the guy you want dynamic balance if he whines and says he cant balance it that way then he dont know how to balance a wheel, e-mail me if you have questions and if your tire guy cant balance it and your near el monte,ca then bring it to me...i can balance anything:D :thumb:
