I know the dizzy is not spinning that the clamp down is tight but it loses its timing it is out of time again.
the reason i know is i marked the body of the dizzy on the intake and my marks have not moved.
it is an hei dizzy. I replaced everything in it the wire to and out of the module, the module, coil, cap and rotor new wires and plugs when i changed manifolds. What would cause this?

do i put another in in summits hei are not that expensive. cant afford msd and fitech dont like em anyway.

I would need a curve kit but would work and i would have spare parts all the crap in the one thats in there is new........https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g5212

try taking the dist cap off, remove the rotor and manually move the weights around.
you are looking for them to spring back under tension if the springs are good, also see if there is excess carbon buildup.
you mentioned fitech in your post, could it be that or partially clogged filter
vacuum leaks maybe.

As soon as its out of the teens in temp I'll check under cap and for vacuum leaks. .

what vacuum source are you using port or manifold, maybe switching them around
what kind of fan are you using mechanical or electrical?
use a stethoscope (vacuum hose will wrk as well if placed by your ear to listen to the timing chain) if mechanical fan use extreme caution,
with the engine running listen to any odd sounds try revving the engine as well
hoping its not a chain as well

Electric fans, the one it said in the instructions for vacuum, lol.
I am leaning towards vacuum leak it's cold and it's gets worse doesn't do it when warm going to replace gasket to manifold have a feeling it's bad but not till its over 45 degs
Right now it's 19 and. Wind chill makes it fell in single didgets .... Fok that chit.. I'm staying in the house

Gotcha, post what you find out what the problem is.
how is the fitech so far.

I know this is going to sound stupid, or maybe even insulting, but I don't mean it that way.....
Are you sure its changing timing? A bad harmonic balancer could cause the timing mark to move without the actual timing changing. And would cause a vibration that feels like a skip or an out of time condition.

I'd agree with the balancer having slipped on its rubber mounting ring too--the engine may not shake even if it has moved, because all the small blocks except the 400 were internally balanced..

I've seen a few distributor gears shear off the roll pin holding it to the shaft and let the gear "slip" before...one straight six a friends grandfather had drove several mechanics insane until one finally discovered the gear was able to slip on the distributor shaft..

He noticed the oil pressure gauge would suddenly drop ,then the engine would backfire, then stall, and refuse to re-start most of the time--if you cranked it over long enough the gear eventually hit the right spot and it'd start and run good again, for anywhere from a minute to several days before it did it again..they had replaced about every un-boltable part on the engine too!..

its picky but works well ,have to follow directions to a tee when installing ,charing system and starting system needs to be good or it will give you trouble. Can not have any exhaust leaks or system will pick it up and ill foul out plugs fast.
dont have to worry about extreme angles and the motor stalling and cold starts are way better than with a carb.
Get a book on efi and read it it helps.

balancer is new but will check it think timing was off by the way it ran haven't put a light on it again its so but ass cold im not going outside unless i have too , its 19 deg this morning think its 26 now and going to snow later

well it mad me mad so bundled up and went and looked and i found 3 things.
1:the little clips inside the distributor that hold the weights in place fell of and was binding not allowing the weights to move so new weights and clips installed
2:the vacuum hose to the dizzy was hard brittle and cracked so i replaced it

3:and the timing was way to advanced the vacuum modulator hold down bolts were lose allowing t to do funky stuff
tightened up the bolts and blue locktite them to hold

checked timing is 16 bas 34 total and running like it is supposed to

i need to buy stock in blue loctite, everything i dont put it on backs out

and the balancer has no excessive play in it and
I cant hear any funny noise with stethoscope to timing cover

Awesome to hear that it is back to normal,
its always the little things that we overlook.
road test it, drive it enjoy
hopefully those were the only gremlins

besides the temp sensor for the electric fans coming lose and getting to 230 n temp no that was it......

sometimes chit happens just fix it and burn rubber....lol:burnout:
