Not starting?

hey guys my truck has been acting up latly, all electronics work when in on position. the truck did this 2 times before, in the 2 years ive owned it, and now its doing it all the time... it doesnt even try to start, but if i mess with the tcase shifter it will start up, but the volts will sometimes be pinned at 18 and my tach says 8000 rpm. it isnt revving at 8000 though, maybe 800... and if i throw it in drive and give it gas it will sputter out instantly. then i can turn it off, and sometimes it starts up fine right after that happens... weird, i dont get it, please help.


im thinking nuetral safety switch... umm but i really dont know... thanks

The neutral safety switch in on the column and not near the T case shifter. Could be your wiring going to the distributor cap. That would be the first place I would check and then at the starter and work your way back until you eliminate a wire to isolate the problem.
