Now I've seen everything!

Re: Now I\'ve seen everything!

That's ironic because I have a 68 SS Camaro shell sitting next to my K5 in the garage, BUT... there's no way I'm chopping that thing up. It's 99% rust free (it's got the standard rust under the rear window) this thing will be my "retirement project". I love that thing, and I'm only going to build it as a street machine. I drove all the way out to Phoenix (from San Diego) to pick it up.
All of these ideas are great (a Chevette with a snow plow!LOL) and they got me thinking. There's an old truck, about 40's vintage that's sitting in a canyon behind some houses in my neighborhood. I recently discovered it and from far it appeared that the body was pretty much all there. I'm getting the incentive to go check it out and see if the person doesn't mind if I haul it out of there. My buddy has some used 36's he'll give me if I pick them up, I'm all ready picturing it on the Blazer frame.

It's not what you buy, it's what you build!

Re: Now I\'ve seen everything!

Dad and I built a 1968/72 Jeepedes Benz(68 Jeep Wagoner and a 72 250 four door Mercedes Benz). Haven't driven it for a while, it needs to be completlly rebuilt mechanicly(except for the rear end, already done),but when I do, it's a kick!!

I've got an 88 LeBaron with a Blown engine that would be cool. I was thinking about doing it, but don't have the time or money. It would be cool with those hidden headlights and everything.

OK, how's this...
A 1980 Kenworth body (cab and single sleeper) on a 3/4 ton Chevy 4wd pickup frame. Painted fluorescent green (long before the neon fad) with 40" Mudders. It was street legal, and used to roam the streets of Bucks County, PA. The guy who owned it was a truck driver,,,go figure.

Hey shaggyk5, do you remember this thing??

Re: Now I\'ve seen everything!

The Astro that you saw was probably done by Tiger conversions in Broomfield Colorado. They are out of business now so you are out of luck if you liked it. What they used to do was to take stock Safari Astros, and cut the front IFS crap off, and sling a NEW dana 30 under it. The drive train was left stock exept for a regear on the rear axel. For a slight bit more money you could have them install a NV 231 T case with low range instead for the full time T case that GM installed from the factory. These little rigs kick butt for car camping and road trips. My friend has put more than 200K on his since he bought it new in `96. With a 4.3 6cyl, 4spd auto, NV 231, 4.56`s, rear locker, and a front ARB, the little grocery getter can take 4+ trails if she wants to! By the way it ramps a solid 725 too.
