Now try and guess why the \'85 runs like crap

Seems like no. 6 cylinder is not quite sparking right. Brand new plugs and wires are already on it. Along with a new cap and rotor, too.

My buddy mechanic is suggesting a vacuum leak on the intake manifold, a bad distributor, and/or bad lifters.

The truck does not idle smooth at all. It shakes and when you rev the motor up or even accelerate, it shakes until you get to a higher speed or RPM and then it smooths out. But it still does not have power at all after the motor smooths out.

Anybody have any more ideas now? /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

had a similar problem in my 78 dually that I owned awhile back. Turned out I had a leak in my new manifold, it has a small amount of warp to it. I had it planed and it worked great, then out went my vacum advance, which made me think my manifold was warped again, but spraying carb and choke cleaner helped me fing the problem. Jesse

Have you done a compression test yet? How about valve lift on that cylinder?

I actually didn't notice that I had one bad plug wire...not to the extent you are saying. i like the "pull one wire at a time" test to narrow down which cylinders are causing problems, but it kinda sounds like you have. Spark is fairly easy to check at the plug end also, wouldn't hurt to watch and see what its doing. Hard to judge a weak spark, but generally, if its firing consistently, its ok. Don't rule out crappy plugs either, hence the spark check. Had 2 of 8 brand new plugs die in 40 minutes of idling. Teach me to buy Autolites. : )

<font color="purple"> It sounds to me like you and Steph have the same problem...You might want to check her post and see what she did to fix it- if she has found it yet. Or at least with eliminating things she has alread fixed and its still not right??? Just a thought.

Rene, yeah, compression test came back at between 120-125 on all cylinders.

Don't you ever get tired of changing spark plugs all the time? /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

At least doing this is cheaper than replacing a major part on the motor. /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Brandy, where is this thread at? /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

Re: Now try and guess why the \'85 runs like crap

you may also want to check all of your rods or at least the one on cylinder 6. if one rod is even 1/8" shorter, it will cause it to run like ur explaining. hope ya find it bro.

I Think the monkeys that stole your underwear are messing with it! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
So is #6 fouling out? Might want to pull the valve cover and check the rockers and push rods. Might have flated a end on that one.
