When I stopped by the local parts store to check on prices for the chain in the 203 TC, the parts guy told me that he showed 2 listings, one was a wider chain than the other. Does anyone know a way to check which chain without having it apart? I will have to order the chain. I prefer to have the parts here before disassembly...

Thanks.

Yup, they used 2 different size chains in the np203 and if you go by what New Process says then they break down like this:

1973 - 1978 --> 3/8 Pitch x 2-1/2 W x 98 Pitches
1978 - 1979 --> 1/2 Pitch x 2 W x 72 Pitches

Here are some part numbers:

2 1/2" chain
Motive Gear 11428
Morse HV005
Cloyes 10-005c

2" chain
Motive Gear 13433
Morse HV009
Cloyes 10-009c

If I had to guess I would say that your 1977 had the larger 2 1/2" chain. That's a good thing:woot: ..... but that would only be a guess:whistle: . Sometimes you just gotta look.

You might want to see if another local store has both the 2" and the 2 1/2" chain in stock and wait until you get it all apart.

The good part is that the 203 is relatively simple to rip apart.

If you need the wider one, I have one sent to me by mistake and the company won't take it back. They said they'd exchange it but I had to pay postage both ways even though it was their foul up...so I told them to poke it!. You can have it for the price of shipping from England which may not be a lot cheaper than a new...but it may save you a few bucks. PM me if you need it.:)

Thanks for the info. Not sure when I'll have time to take it apart, but I'll keep you in mind.

Thanks!
