I have read that the 203 low range box is easier to shift than the 205, but I'm a little worried that it may be TOO easy to shift (ie: I did something wrong during the rebuild :() With the factory bracket on the shift rail I can shift it by hand. Is that ok? I will test drive the truck this weekend so I will know for sure if I built everything correctly

On my doubler, the 203 is extremely easy to shift. So easy, in fact, that I need to shim the spring with a washer because the shifter keeps popping out of gear with the bumps.

That's what I wanted to hear. I rigged up a shifter using an old 203 support rod and its a little heavy. I think I will add two hooks to my center console and just use a bungee cord to hold the shifter in place. (this is only temporary)

I've been using a bungee cord as a temporary fix too. It works pretty darn well for a half-assed fix :)

A lot of my reason that it's popping out of gear is that the rubber shift boot is just stiff enough to pull back on the shifter and cause it to shift into neutral.
