Does anyone know the original color of the T Case? I tok mine apart and am resealing it so I might as well clean up the outside too.
Were they all a cetian colr or no, because I have seen seome no color.
Its not red and its not orange so what color is it? Thanks!

Mine has a little bit of orange left on it. I assume it’s from the factory because the two owners that had the truck before me wouldn’t know where to look for a transfer case to pull it out and paint it.

Mine looks like Chevy orange.....same as the engine block.

Personally, I think it's stupid (why draw attention to a transfer case?)....so even though it's "factory", I'll probably beadblast mine down to a bare metal finish and give it a clearcoat to protect it.

Just my .02 /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I have heard you can get a spray paint from your Chrsysler dealer for an orangish red color that is a very good match.

Alot of drivetrain componets were painted Chevy orange back in the day. My 205 is orange. I like the looks of Chevy Orange. You can get that color in a spray can at your local auto parts store.

I use duplicolor Hi-Heat cast iron finish for almost everything.

It looks like an original finish but it's much easier to clean than cast iron.

Mine is Red oxide primer color, original finish as far as I know. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

My T/C and Muncie 465 were orange also but, I sprayed them after cleaning and rebuilding with a PPG's gray expoy primer DP 48 I think. It has the very good adhesion quality to bare metal and will last forever..

My experience has shown that Don is right. Red oxide (almost a flat orangish rust color) is the original color. Generally when people do an engine, the x-case often gets painted to match. I know a restorer who always goes back to the original and looks great for those who care. My '68 SM465 and Rockwell 221 are both this color and still the original paint!
