Take a peak at the back of the case(rear-facing side), and look for a small cover bolted on near the center. Cover is a little larger than a half-dollar. This identifies a 205.
Also on the stock shifter it should read (front to back) low-lock, low, neutral, high, high lock for the 203. A 205 would be low, neutral, 2-high, 4-high. Or somthing like that, the small three bolt cover is my prefered way of id., J.
Im not trying to hijck the thread but I have another question for you guys that know everything about tcases.
I am building a K5 on rockwells with 350, turbo 350.
Ive got my hands on a free 203 that works good. Or should I hunt down a 205. Either way I have to have a adpater to go from the tranny to the tcase. Since the turbo 350 came out of a 2wd truck.
Generally speaking, the 203's aren't as desirable as the 205's. They are full-time 4x4 (can't stop the front shaft from spinning) unless you convert them, they are quite a bit heavier, and the 203 is chain driven as about to gear driven like the 205. The only thing worthwhile with the 203 would be the range box that can be used for a dual tcase setup.
