np 205 shift linkage?

i can relax now, i have got my hands on np 205 but has a no shifting linkage. i have learned so far that there is an old style & a new style linkage. i have found a couple of dates. the tag on the front on the t-case on the ser. # says 1 17 78 with a assy # 3990935. on the back of the case it also says 1-17-78. which one will work the old style or new style shift linkage? or does it make a difference? it going on a 75 k5

that year would be fig 8 adaptor. i have used shifters from lots of 205s. most i needed to do was heat and bend thay way i needed them. but i have seen some funky ones.
