I'd like to know if something can be done also. Between the shifter bolt, the little link, and the plate between the shift rails, it all adds up to a fair amount of slop.
If you can somehow tweak the links a little so you can replace that pinned in plate with a two rod ends (a male and female if it needs to be short) that bolt directly to the links (shifter and rail plate), you would eliminate a lot of the slop.
That's what I was going to do until I changed to twin sticks with rod ends.
My 1986 NP205 had a factory rubber bushing in the shifter pivot and rail connecting plate. Some of the older shifters have special wire pin retainers and wave spring washers that are ofter missing. The greaseable bolts/shifters help a little too.
