I have a th350 with a 203, if i wanted to swap a 205 will the crossmember be the same? besides drive shafts any other mods?

Was thinking of doing just a part time shaft swap in my 203, just not sure what to do. I think in the end the 205 swap will be about the same money and time.

Well, I'll chime in with the usual suggestions.

203 is a chain driven case, 205 is all gear. 205 is going to be more durable in the long run.

A 205 swap requires the crossmember, adapter, coupler, shifter, and driveshafts. Some would say to go ahead and do a doubler (203 range box and 205 transfercase mated together with an adapter plate), but that is a decent amount of $$.

I personally saw no reason to spend any money on my 203 (part time kit or whatever), but I also needed a new driveshaft so I knew I was going to have that expense. There are 2 types of part time kits out there, one is just a couple of gear inserts into the output differential, and the other is an actual replacement rear output shaft. Check em both out before buying.

I to need drive shafts as well, doing a 14bolt and 3/4 ton d44 swap, so I guess the 205 is the way to go. what are the mods need for the crossmember? Im trying to find a 205 off a th350 with adapter so I guess the only need is the crossmember and drive shafts. Doubler would be cool I have to of the 203's, one off the k5 th350, and one off the 3/4 ton sm465. always a choice down the road.

I think you just need to relocate it on the frame.. I was able to grab the crossmember and all when I got my 205, so it was a simple bolt in procedure.

thanks for the help. not in a big hurry to get done so I will take my time and try to find it all together as well.

I've done this swap. You don't need to do anything with the crossmember. All will bolt right up. If you can get that front shaft from the 465 I'm about 98% certain it will fit in your application. Rear will have to be longer then the 203 shaft.

thanks for the advice. It seems the hardest part is finding the adapter from the 205/th350. Or should I say at a reasonable price. I think what I will do for now is convert the 203 to part time and down the road, year or so, do the doubler, or lo max.

I'd recommend checking around some more. Usually these can be bought with the adaptor all ready on- the whole thing for a reasonable price. I wouldn't want to sink the time, money and headache into dealing with a 203. ESPECIALLY if you just go with the weak parttime kit that I've heard is bearly up to driving on the street- let alone any type of wheelin. 203s are big- long- heavy- chain driven- and about 900 needle bearings.
