I noticed that my 4lo was slipping when I was driving the truck a few days ago. I cracked open the case and noticed some wear in the planetary gears where they connect to the mainshaft, and alot of other gears seem to have some light abnormal wear, but nothing too bad. The chain seemed to be in good condition with a few inches of play. So how bad are my gears and how much play should I have in my chain?

i might sound stupid when i say this but i didnt no a 208 could "slip" i no it might skip teeth etc. but can they really slip? i no the newer style mid 90s Tcases have clutches in them but 208s?

It may be a transmission issue, I just couldn't figure out why it was only slipping in 4lo

You might want to check your shifter linkage adjustment. I has a 208 that felt as if it were slipping, but only in 4lo, turned out the shifter was out of adjustment causing it to not fully engage.

And check the shift forks and pads. If they are worn they will not fully engage or hold properly and the t-case will pop out of gear under load.

Yeah, those pads are worn, I'm going to replace those and slap this thing back together.
