hey all. I was tired of the little signature my truck left on the ground everywhere I parked. Wasn't bad but a few drops every time where the rear drive shaft meets the tranny so time for the original seal to go. it's a pretty easy job if you ever do it and the leak is gone. Anyway. My question is. When it leaked was that fluid from the transmission or transfer case?. I assume it's tranny fluid since my tranny fluid was way down after the seal replacement. Lots poured out when I pulled the old seal. So I topped up the tranny and all is well. Just thought I'd ask. That seal has nothing to do with the fluid in the transfer case correct?.

There is a seal in between the transfer case & transmission to prevent the fluid in the trans from migrating into the T-case and overfilling it--they can and do fail though,so it is possible the leaking rear output shaft let enough leak out to make both be low on fluid..

Yeah, how much fluid is in the T-case?
It could have leaked into the T-case, or been overfilled at some point and pressure helped push it into the T-case.
Either way, keep an eye on the trans. You might find yourself with an overfilled T-case and another leak

I JUST went through this. The leak is transfer case juice. BUT be aware you yoke might be leaking. Pull yoke, cleaned back side real good. Put JBWeld on it. This part is critical, let it dry 24 hours. A local drive shaft guy told me about this. Walla, it really works.

I had that on the slip yoke.
I did the same thing, clean really well and jbweld.
