Based on what I know, there are two versions of the 241, one for the IFS vehicles with a driverside front drop, and another for a straight front axle with a passengerside drop. My local boneyard says that all GMs are IFS, and only Dodge had a 241 for a straight axle. Does this sound right?

That is not true. The 241 was used in Blazers and Subs from 88 or 89 through 91 when they were discontinued.

The NP 241 in these trucks comes in 27 spline for the 700R4 and 32 spline for the TH 400 found in 3/4 ton Suburbans through 91.
