How strong is the NP241?, I have one in my 89 Suburban with 40 inch tires and Ive always been a little leary of the chain drives, I do like the lower gearing but always felt it was a weak link.

My '90 has the NP241 complete with the original slip yoke design. Besides for leaking I have never had a problem with it and it has never been out of the truck.

This has been a trail only truck for almost 10 years now and gets used hard. It's currently 1-ton with 40" tires, and I have broke a stock neck-down and 2 30-spline outer D60 shafts so it is not babied.

As long as the t case itself doesn't hit a rock or your driveshafts bottom out, it should last quite a while. Do a SYE, good skid plate, and have at it.

x3.

The 241 is stronger than people give them credit for, especially the die hard 205 crowd.

The gearing is a lot nicer than a 205 as well.

The only time I have ever seen a 241 break, it was due to loose adapter bolts......Installer error.

as said above, just make a nice skid plate and it should be fine. my buddy has a np208 (basically the samething) in his k20 with a 450hp 454, and he loves the skinny pedal. its been fine. and i have a 400hp 350, and mine is also fine.

I have seen a few break, I myself broke 2 but neither were t case failure. The first was spring wrap that let loose and shocked the driveshaft that bad it broke the output and bent the mainshaft. 2nd was when I jumped it last year and found out my front driveshaft was to long. When it landed it shattered the case.

Clocked and skidded.

How much did clocking it make the front driveshaft lengthen, and is that a square tube front driveshaft? And why Im at it where did you get the slip yoke eliminator and brand....

You will need a clocking ring from DIY and a SYE from JB conversions.

The front driveline is fun...... I built a 2 piece front driveline to make it work with a LP60 and 4inches of lift.

Not sure on the front shaft. I never even tried to put the stock one back in to check it. It is square tube now. I got the idea from a member here to do a custom flange, D60 joint combo. It is good to about 42* without binding. I run a 1350 Tom Woods offset joint on the axle. I got the SYE from High Angle Driveline 6 or so years ago. I think it was a JB kit but I needed it with a flange.

Now that is a very interesting front driveline. Was the problem the lift or did clocking the transfer case putting the flange to high?

you guys with the clocked up cases have any pictures of what you had to do to the floorboards? I have a 4L80E, my 241 is pretty far back so I might need to pound or cut a different area but it would help just the same. Have the clocking ring from DIY4X just sitting around and a temporary crossmember. Just trying to figure out what it would take to clock it flat.

I have to dig for pics, but yes, you will need to cut and weld in a "box" and a make new passenger seat mount.

I don't have any pics of the floor. I'm running a cage with the seats mounted to the cage so all I needed to do was make a small cover with some sheet metal.
