Okay on my girlfriend's blazer, the 203 is giving me some problems. It will shift through all the gears however it is only in 4wd in the high and high lock positions. Any suggestions on what it might be. I have a spare 203 but really don't feel like putting it in there right now. Any ideas on whatit may be is very appreciated.

Oh yeah and does anyone know where I can pick up some dust caps for the front axle.

Thanks

it is still full time?
why do you say that its not in 4x4 in low?
i think sombody has the caps and slugs for sale in the axle section section

vary comon problem for stock 203 shifters to get all dirty and messed up inside. then thay wont shift right.

are you sure yours is working 100% first place i would look.

This blazer is new to us and someone had added the part-time hubs, however around here most don't do the transfer case which is a problem. The hubs are not locking, I already have the slugs from mine, so wew are going to put it back full-time. The caps I have are beat to hell.

Tonight I jacked the back tires up, and shifted through the gears. In the 203 both drive shafts turned together in high and high lock, but not in the low ranges. This was turning by hand. This is also how I figured the hubs are not locking. The axles appears fine as it spins on both sides.

Not entirely sure but know the shifters are a problem from what I have read here. But it seems like most of what I have read on here was the shifter handle not moving. Not sure if it can be moving and not shifting, but I really don't know much about these.

Okay I put the slugs in the truck today. One of the warn hubs were missing some parts, go figure. As far as I can tell the tcase hase not be converted, which doesn't surprise me. But I am sure that it is 4wd now but only in the high ranges, in the low ranges it is only in 2wd. The shifter moves fine, but could that still my problem? If it is something internal I will probably just replace it, I have another on a parts truck I can use. I just hate taking these things out and hate putting them back in, as I am sure everyone does.

I can't think of anything internally that could cause your symptoms. There are two separate mechanisms, one that operate the gearbox and one that locates the shift fork for the diff. Lockout.

It's definitely the shifter because it 4-loc does work at some point (it's always the shifter anyway, lol). You may need to take a dremel to the shift tracks inside the shifters to get them to work again. The detents in the tracks wear out...they're a huge klstrphk. You might be happier fashioning a twin-stick or something. There's a lot of threads on the shifters.

You can double check that it's the shifter by disconnecting the shift rods and doing it manually. You'll have to anyway to fix the shifter...you could be lucky and it just needs to be adjusted. You disconnect the rods, shift to neutral I think, and put a drill bit in the bottom of the shifter while you adjust the rod lengths. It's in the corresponding Haynes manuals.

Thanks man. I am going to give it a try. I have looked at the double shifter, but I think I am going to test it like you mention and go from there. I just wan't sure if the shifter would be causing the symptoms I have a 205 in mine and it is different. I have the haynes manual but it is hit and miss with that thing. I'll post back when I know something.
