Any one completely dissemble a np203 range box? I want to get the case sand blasted before I put my doubler together so it needs to come apart.

Is it pretty easy? I have rebuilt a np205 and many np208's so I am not a newb. Is there anything I should know before I tear it apart?

Well I'd say it would be pretty easy for you since you have some t-case experience. Before I did my 203 I had only dissasembled/reassembled a np-241 in a college class several years ago. Do a google image search for "exploded diagram np-203" That will come in handy.

The only thing to watch out for is when you have to hammer out the Idler shaft (I think that's what it's called) It must be knocked out towards the front of the case then re-installed from the front side. Take your tranny/t-case adapter and make sure it fits to the 203 as the idler shaft has a flat spot that must line up with the adapter.

I started hammering mine out the wrong way and chewed up some of the case so I ended up using another case that I had lying around. I also think I have some pictures saved from the rebuild so if ya need any reference pics, let me know. Oh and one more thing, you will want to remove that shift linkage that's inside the range box. It's not used for the doubler and you wouldnt want that to come loose inside your case

it's not so bad. If you really need it I can get the factory manual stuff scanned, but not until Friday. Pretty straightforward.

Patience is a must, the needle bearings didn't give me any trouble. It was those shims on the front and rear of the idler shaft that sucked, they kept falling down when I was installing the shaft

That don't happen if you have the case on it's front or back side when installing the idler shaft and all the pieces. :D

lol. Well I got the doubler adapter put together and the range box painted. Today after work it is time to play with those needle bearings and get the range box done. This weekend I am going to make the wife rebuild the np205 with my supervision.:D Already got her to rebuild my dana 60:eek1:.

Ever consider going on that show "Wife Swap"?

Just a question.
