So I've about got my doubler assembled and one of the last things to do is glue on the magnet that sits in the bottom of the range box. What's a good thing to use for this? RTV?

DO NOT use RTV. If anything i would mix up some JB weld. The magnet in my range box has a clip that holds it in place.

I'm hesitant to just use any glue/RTV/adhesive, although the stuff that was holding it in place before I pried it out was some kind of glue/sealent. What does your clip fasten on to inside the box? I just have a round area it sits inside and don't see where a clip would sit.

Is it a bad idea to leave the magnet out entirely? My 205 doesn't have one. Should it?

i think i know what you're talking about, but just want to make sure. have a pic of this magnet? i would think the magnet's purpose would to collect any small metal particles. when i rebuilt my 203, it had a few shavings and lots of guck stuck to it.

It looks like a big washer about 1.5" in diameter with a hole in the middle. Mine had metal particles and gunk stuck to it as well. I assumed it was to collect this kind of stuff so it didn't damage the gears.

JBWeld is sounding like the best option so far, but using epoxy (or any kind of glue) in heated oil on an iron case just doesn't seem like it will last all that long. Luckily the magnet sticks to the case naturally so there's a little bit of reassurance it just won't float around if it did break loose.

I think the clip Scott mentioned would be the best method.

The magnet by itself isn't good enough. You need to either find the clip or JB weld it in.

X2 !!!
Listen to this advice........

Yes, I didn't mean to say I'd just leave it in there and hope the magnet is strong enough. :) Just that it may help a bit.
