NP203 Shifter Removal

Is it possible to remove the shifter off my NP 203 without pulling the transfer case? I took the two bolts out holding the bracket, but it seems the thing won't drop down. The shifter froze up and won't move, so I need to fix/replace the guts.

It should come off, remove the linkage and use a prybar to free it up.

I got it out, took a lot of twisting and rotating, also had to remove the front driveshaft. Now that its out and installing known good parts...I have to figure out how to get it back together...anyone have a diagram or tips to get it reassembled?
