got my first 203 equipped 76 k5. Not my first square body but my first with this case. It has manual hubs and isn't a dual stick case. Label at the front of the case on the case reads 203. I have been looking for info on the shift pattern with no luck. I can lock the hubs in and shift the case amongst the gears while putting the trans in nuteral. It will make a squeal almost grind noise while shifting the case. 4hi/4lo seems almost non existent. All I get is movement full forward shift, back one gets me in nuteral, back one from that movement back one further from that its in nuteral again... am I lost here???

With front hubs unlocked, hi and lo will not work, must be in loc posistion to move the truck.

Hope that helps

All I get with the hubs locked and unlocked is 4hi and 2hi with two nuterals.

There is no 2 hi on that case unless its been part time converted. Shifters are notorious for not working
On the case there are 2 levers mounted on one bolt/shaft, one does hi/low range, the other lever locks and unlocks the differential in the rear of the case. Id unbolt the shifter and make sure you have full motion and manually shift the detents then adjust the linkage.

It's definitely a 203, t-case and Id tag are pretty good determination that it is. Its not a twin stick and is a factory case.

yeah stock has 1 stick but 2 shift rails, and they need to be adjusted correctly, as @onetonbb74 said. undo linkage then find the detentes on the shift rails, adjust shift level linkage to fit.

I add my voice to this.
You should have 5 positions if the shifter is getting full range.
If it's not getting in loc on either end because of misalignment of the arms you lose one position.

How does one find the proper adjustment? Google and YouTube hasn't been friendly in said situation.
Look at the tcase where the shifter attaches, you have 2 levers side by side on a shaft coming out of the tcase, in neutral they should be aligned.
Disconnect the rods of them and align them in neutral and then adjust the rods to fit on them and everything should work smoothly as long as the shifter assembly is tight and lubed properly

I think there is a hole in the side of the shifter that you can align all of the shift rails and the shift lever with a drill bit or punch in neutral.

Then shift both of the transfer case levers to the middle detent position on the 203. Adjust the threaded rods in or out until they fit nicely into the holes on the shift plates. Install the clips, remove the drill bit or punch and you should have all positions.

Works much like the Hurst 4 speed shifters of old.... :waytogo::waytogo:

Yeah I forgot to mention the pin through the holes

To check you can unhook the GM garbage shifter and pull the dentents on the Tcase by hand from underneath to see if the Tcase is engaging all positions, if they all engage properly, throw out the GM shifter and get the twin stick.

Inner tab has 2 positions. Loc unLoc
Check the sticker in my picture

But I would highly recommend just getting the twin stick... all the hassle you’re going through now isn’t worth it if your shifter is all messed up.
