My 4by quit working. I read a post on installing a part-time kit and thought to take the tail shaft apart to see if the chain was broke or the part time kit gave it up. The shift rail and the fork inside slide like they are supose to. The chain is good. The round stamped piece with the cross like it came from a differential has striped teeth. Those on the piece to engage the 4by does not look to worn. Just for some reason the stamped round piece that has the cross in it has striped teeth. This is made of cheap stamped metal. It is not a mile marker or superwinch set. The hubs on my truck do not have a brand niether. I do not want to spend a lot but would like my 4by to work a bit more. Any idea who else use to or still does sell part-time kits? I do not think i can go with a kit from someone else because i may not have the original parts that some require. If i find a cheap one around i would even go back to full-time. Just need a cheaper way to get this back together. I looked on craigslist and will keep looking for a cheap 203 to get the parts from to fix. Any other ideas or places that you can think of that made these kits to where i can get this one part? (The outside ring in the first pic.)

since you have it out. pick up all the pieces. walk over to the local scrap truck and throw it all int he bed :p: i hate that case. basically the 3rd time i took mine out i said the heck with it and replaced it with a 208 np203s are usually like 10 bolts. i always find people just giving them away. i ended up scraping mine cause no one would take it :(

I don't know where you'd find the part, but a new superwinch part time kit is around $75 bucks from jegs or summit if you already have locking hubs. The 203 gets a bad rap, usually because of the chain/weight and when compared to the 205, but with good maintenance it will hold up to what you throw at it, unless you've got gobs of horsepower. Using the 203 also means you don't have to worry about swapping adapters on the back of your trans. I have a couple thousand miles on my part time 203 with no problems at all.

I beat the living snot outta mine in 78.....then plowed with it til the 10 bolt give up a stub.....replaced that and drove another 2 years....and sold it....I too think the 203 gets a bad rap....I can't complain about my experience with em.

I too, agree, I got 2 trucks with Np203's........both full time (not daily drivers though) and I've never had problems with them. I think some peaple just dont undertsand how they work.....ie....what range position to drive in ect........yeah its a heavy sob......but its very strong.

And FULL TIME 4x4...........hell thats all the rage nowadays............theres more Full time 4wd vehicles being made now as there were back in the mid 70's.

I was just worried about since there was already a parttime kit in it that was cheap and gave it up if i would have all the parts i need to reuse still. If i could look at the kit in my hand i would be able to tell though.
