A friend of mine e-mailed me a photo of a divorced np205 with 2 rear outputs. for a minute I thought it was a doctored pic. What type of vehicle or application would call for 2 rear outputs?

I think i've seen pics of one too, got me interested, I'll search around and post if I find it

So a divorced 205 with dual rear outputs is actually a 200?

Maybe the rear output is to hook up to a hydraulic pump. This would be used to operate the winch hydraulics on a wrecker.

Think about what you're saying....

If it was truly a "dual rear output divorced case 205" the thing would have FOUR yokes! :eek1: :haha:

A divorced NP205 has two yokes on the "front" side of the case. One attached to the transmission via a driveshaft (that's what makes it "divorced"), and one going to the front axle.

Maybe you were simply looking at the front side of the case?

There are dual rear output 200/205 t-cases. That means there are two yokes on the back side of the case, or, like you said, four yokes total for a divorced case.

I'm not sure if it was a NP200 or NP205 that had the dual rear outputs but the two cases are very similar.

I think the rear outputs always turn together, so it's not for a PTO. The best application I can think of is a 6x6. You could also use the second output for nothing other than a driveline brake.

I remember reading in some farm magazine like 10 years ago about a guy who made a tandem axle 4x4 70 or 80s style chevy by adding a second 205 and running it backward to get a driveshaft for both rear axles... I think, been a long time.

I'd run a second rear axle in the crew cab in a heart beat!

Thats what the 2nd rear output on the np200 is used for (in a Dodge M-37 or Kaiser M-715)

The M715 has an offset rear axle so the NP200 in the M715 has an offset rear output, in-line with the front output. The centered rear output on the NP200 has the drum for the parking brake attached to it and nothing else.

You can take the offset output from the NP200 and put it in the NP205 where there is typically just a bearing retainer. The two rear outputs will always move together.
