NP205 3:1 kits

[ QUOTE ]
or really to slow?

[/ QUOTE ] subjective. Some people will tell you lower than a 100:1 crawl ratio is pointless. Whatever.

OK, so if whoever made the Atlas t-case had decided to use the same dimensions, etc. as a 205, that would be a 205 as well? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

I guess in my mind, changing 2 major components of a transfer case (the housing and geartrain) from the factory stuff to substantially-different aftermarket stuff, makes it a different product.
Oh well, I suppose my opinion is a moot point since I don't need/can't afford one anyway.

Okay I get it.

Don't beat up the messenger, I'm only telling you what the owner of JB Conversions told me. /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

An Atlas was built to similar specs as a Dana 300, but better.

I do not think they call it a 205, they call it a LoMax IIRC
I recall the projected price being extremely reasonable and am a little curious where the "very spendy" comes from
IIRC the price was around $1300 plus a 205 core to rob parts from
whats an d300 based Atlas go for?

a dana20 is not a good transfer case.
it isnt even a constant mesh gear design.
most of you here claim you cannot shift the 205 on the fly so the dana20 will be a tougher go for you
I do not think my EBronco friends ever came home from beating on it with both outputs still in working order

you could use a GM Dana 20 behind the 465, just have to get the adapter and transfer case from an early K5, and downgrade to 10 spline, and its pass drop. Don't think any aftermarket places know this exists, so I am unsure if the 3.15:1 gears will work in it.

If we really want to get nutty with crawl ratios, use an Sm420, Doubler with WMS 3:1 NP203 and LoMax 3:1 NP205, and axles with 7.17 gears. Give or take 450...lol

Not at all; like I said before, I'm asking seriously and not sarcastically.

I agree; for a new custom-made gearset and a new custom-made housing, $1300 is quite reasonable.

I guess it's just the way I look at things... and no one else seems to see this the same way I do, so I'll just shut up now. No sense in trying to force my point-of-view on the rest of the gang.
Thanks to everyone for the answers.

I actually see your point. Thats why I pointed out that an Atlas (see, new name) is actually designed from a D300. Same with the Lomax. It will have a new name, but formatted to fit in place one of the most popular t-cases out there, much like the Atlas. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
