Ok, so it takes a 1 5/16" socket to take the yokes off... or at least I'm pretty sure thats what it is. I just made a half hour journey to buy the socket and it doesn't fit in the damn yoke :doah: ... I'm about --> <-- that close to just takin the socket to the grinder til it works... So my quesiton is... is there a special socket needed to take the yokes off the t-case? I don't wanna put an $18 socket to the grinder if I don't have to... also, while I'm on the subject of special tools... anything other that regular hand tools and snap ring pliers needed to do the job right or at least make it easier? :1zhelp:

If the socket is the correct size, but the thickness of the wall it too big, grind it until it fits. This is not an uncommon thing to have happen. I have done a few of these and never had one break.

You need to grind the OD of the socket to fit the yoke. You're also going to need a long roll pin punch to remove the shift forks from the shift rails.

thanks, thats kinda what I figured I'd have to do... now if I could just get some time to actually get out and work on it.

Got the yokes off and most of the t-case apart last night:woot:... ended up having a buddy who works at O'Reilly Auto Parts rig something up on the rotor/drum turning lathe to get the 1 5/16" socket turned down. :D:D:D The inside of the rear yoke measured, I think, at just over 1 7/8". For the front output, I think the nut was 1 1/8". All I have left is the idler gear and the shift forks/rails. Is there a factory color that the NP205s were painted? Since I'm doing a complete rebuild, a fresh coat of paint on the case is in order.... I'd have pix up, but I lost the charger to my camera :doah:

I asked the same question before - I believe it is a reddish Chrysler color - I ended up going with Chevy orange on mine
